EMONET XII Goes Virtual!

EMONET XII (Banner)

Welcome to the Twelfth International Conference on Emotions and Worklife (Emonet XII)! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Twelfth International Conference on Emotions and Worklife will be held virtually on July 8th and 9th, 2020.

Emotions research has transformed organisation studies, enlightening us to the rich experiences and possibilities for adding to the quality of work and the environments in which we undertake it. Throughout this revolution, the Emotions and Worklife (Emonet) conference has provided a central meeting point for emotions scholars from around the world to share and nurture their intellectual curiosity in the area. The biannual conference is organised by the Emotions Network (Emonet) e-mail group; an international scholarly network that facilitates discussion relating to theoretical development in the study of emotion in organisations. The group was established in January 1997 and is affiliated with the Academy of Management’s Listserv.

Prof. Neal Ashkanasy, Founder of Emonet, Co-Chair of Emonet XII Virtual Conference

The primary aim of Emonet XII is to bring together scholars who study emotions in organisational life, and to provide a forum for presentation of some significant advances in this important area. A selection of conference papers from Emonet XII will be considered for inclusion in Volume 17 of the Annual Book Series, Research on Emotion in Organizations, published by the Emerald Group.

Going virtual for the first time…

The Emonet committee shares similar concerns as the majority of our participants regarding time difference in a virtual conference. Thus, we aim to neutralise this by reducing the live duration of our virtual conference; which at the same time, would benefit in more ways than one in terms of publicity of our authors’ work and audience’s accessibility to new knowledge on emotion in organisations.

The virtual conference comprises one pre-recorded opening plenary and two live closing plenary sessions, and eight paper sessions consisting altogether of 27 papers. There are two parts to each paper session in this virtual conference, i.e., pre-recorded paper presentation and live paper discussion on Zoom. This way, audience will be able to view the pre-recorded presentations prior to the live paper discussion sessions (much like Q & A in a physical conference) on Zoom. To allow for more interactive discussions on Zoom with Emonet authors, we strongly encourage participants to view the pre-recorded presentations ahead of the live discussions. Links to presentation recordings and Zoom meeting IDs are available on the Conference Program and Book of Abstracts. Access to Zoom sessions will require password, which will be sent to registrants individually.

We look forward to connecting with you in July!
